Steak and Mushrooms in Air Fryer

Last night I made steak and mushrooms in my air fryer. I bought my air fryer about 2 months ago and have only really used a couple of times. So far I really like it because it is easy and a quick clean up.

When I am making dinner usually, I don’t follow a recipe exactly and usually it works it out. lol Usually, that is when my best ideas come to life. I was never a good cook, but I am slowly learning. I LOVE baking and can do that pretty well. I really like being creative and being able to make something that will bring a smile to someone’s face.

So I saw a recipe for steak and mushrooms and I tweaked it to how I like it. I made this recipe with sirloin steak, I’m sure you can make it with whatever steak you wanted. I like to marinade my steak before cooking. So I used McCormicks Mesquite seasoning and I drizzled it over each side of the steak. Then I drizzled Worcestershire sauce over both sides of the steak. I covered it with foil and put it in the fridge for about a few hours. I think I did about 6 hours, but I feel like 2-4 hours would be good. It is up to you really on how long you want to have it in the fridge to marinate.

Then when it was time to make dinner, I took the steak out of the fridge and chopped it into chunks. Then I chopped an onion and garlic into smaller pieces. I used probably about 1/2 cup of onions and 1/4 cup of garlic. But again, it is whatever you like, so if you like more or less, do what you like. I put the steak, onion, garlic and mushrooms in a bowl. I used probably about a 1/2 cup of mushrooms, but you can always use more or less. step1.jpg

I turned on my air fryer and set it to 400 degrees, which I thought it was a little high. But it cooks super fast.


Spray the inside of the air fry basket with some cooking spray, to help it not stick to the sides as much. It is supposed to be “non-stick” but we all know how that really goes lol

Put the mixture into the air fryer basket and spread it out into a thin layer. I have a small air fryer, so I had to do to two batches. step2.jpg

So the original recipe wanted me to cook it for 10 minutes. I think that is WAY too much time. I like my steak rare or medium rare, not shoe leather. lol With the air fryers, you have to stop in the middle of cooking and flip the mixture over, so it cooks evenly.

So I cooked my first batch for 3 minutes then flipped it and did 2 more minutes. For me, even that was too long because it is at 400 degrees. So, for the next batch, I did 2 minutes, took the fry basket out, flipped the mixture and did it for 2 more minutes. That was good for the steak, so I took all the steak out and cooked the mushrooms, garlic and onions for 3 more minutes to get them browned.
